Started with a trek to Goechala where I met Sandeep and Sanjeev Rai, the 2 trek guides. They have 3 kids, from kindergarden to Grade 6. A chance conversation and I decided to sponsor their education. But some things from the conversation stayed with me.

The children walk everyday 45m to go to school in Darjeeling. The village they stay has 30 families with 40 school going children. The village is Lower Aloo Bari Busty, T.N Road Darjeeling

Sponsoring for 3 children would create disparity in a close knit community, where every home is like family. While paying for fees helps them financially, what I think would create greater impact is if we can create a framework for mentoring and supporting the children. The idea is simple – creating a 1x1 mentor / teacher framework for children remotely. Build support for the community through shared commitment and delivering success to all.

I look forward to sharing my learning, and building a playbook that we could replicate across other villages.
